Alert African Woman
Recent estimates place the Musoma municipal HIV/ AIDS infection rates
at around fourteen percent. This prevalence of HIV/AIDS victims creates
a difficult living environment for affected families. Of the many issues Musoma residents face, the ability to have a successful career or
employment opportunity while simultaneously raising a family is one of
the must challenging.
Many of these affected families also care for orphaned children. In the rural villages we serve, women remain economically powerless and children remain un-educated both academically and in regards to HIV/AIDS prevention. People are dying every day and the number of orphans of AIDS is increasing from sheer ignorance.
Alert African Woman is a faith based organization within the New Life
Gospel Community Church of Tanzania devoted to fighting against the
pathetic social/cultural practices on woman that have facilitated the
wide spread of HIV/ AIDS in our area.
Our women lead in the process of mobilizing village leaders of
different tribes and denominations to conduct seminars in their villages
on HIV/AIDS. These seminars provide valuable information to people with
no proper knowledge on HIV/AIDS prevention. The seminars also provide a
variety of economic empowerment tools to women. This program has been
implemented in some villages, but only in a limited way due to the lack
of funds.
